CERRITOS RECREATION SERVICES DIVISION JULY 23,2010
Last weeks unseasonably warm weather had a significant effect on attendance at Cerritos Recreatioin Services facilities. The rise in temperature and humidity took its toll at Cerritos Ironwood Nine Golf Course. as attendance dipped below average. Conversely, the Swim and Fitnerss Center and Community Gymnasiums experienced an inccreasee in overall attendance as residents sought refuge in cooler facities. In general, warm weather months attract signficantly more park goers at the City’s community centers and neighborhod parks.
Summer Vaacation Day Camp has reach the midway mark of its ten-week schedule. The first five sessions hosted 257 youth campers and activities include fitness, enrichment, leadership, teambuilding and arts activities. In addition, participants visited numerous local points of interest as the La Brea Tar Pits, Medieval Times and Knott’s Bery Farm. The program culminates in August as it coincides with the end od summer vacation for students attending schools withis ABC Unified School District.
The Family Entertainment Showcase has entertained large crowds during the first two weeks of programming. These events provide a unique opportunity for families to come together and enjoy a summer evening of fre entertainment. Additionally, residents from the Vintage cerritos assisted living community free entertanment. The Family Entertainment Showcase continues next week with the following schedule:

Following is a listing of certain upcoming Recreation Services Division programs and activities. Many of the activities require advance registration and participation numbers are limited. Cerritos residents receive priority in registration. Let Freedom Ring Celebration
Join the City of Cerritos and the Let Freedom Ring Committee at the 37th Annual Let Freedom Ring Celebration. The celebration will be held on Sunday, July 4 at the Cerritos Civic Center. Festivities include food and game booths sponsored by local community organizations, rides, entertainment and a bell-ringing ceremony. The evening will culminate with a fireworks show at Cerritos High School at 9 PM.
Family Entertainment Showcase
Join us for the Family Entertainment Showcase and enjoy family-oriented fun throughout the summer. These events provide an ideal opportunity for families to build ties of affection, support, teamwork and common interests. All activities are free, including movies, children’s entertainment and a variety of concerts. For the enjoyment of all and pursuant to the Cerritos Municipal Ordinance 9.48.030(p), dogs, cats or pets are not allowed in the park during special events and concerts. In addition, pursuant to the Cerritos Municipal Ordinance 9.49.020, smoking is prohibited within the boundaries of all City of Cerritos public park facilities. Monday Night at the Movies
Enjoy popular family and animated classics under the stars in the Liberty Park Amphitheater. Each Monday evening, a different film will be shown. All movies are rated G unless indicated otherwise. Early arrival is suggested. The amphitheater gates will open at 7 PM and the movie will begin at 8:15 PM. No chairs of any kind are allowed inside the amphitheater; please bring a blanket for seating. Snacks will be available for a nominal fee.

Tuesday Family Nights
Spend quality time together as a family and a neighborhood. As part of the ongoing Family Enrichment Program, Tuesday nights are devoted to family bonding. Families can enjoy entertainment, programs or activities at four neighborhood parks. Each program will begin at 6:30 PM and last approximately 45 minutes. There will be a pre-show craft or activity. Please arrive early and bring a blanket for seating. Snacks will be available for a nominal fee. Please note that there are no restroom facilities at Friendship and Sunshine Park.
